- Dr. Zimei Zhou is a distinguished ophthalmologist with a unique combination of medical expertise and extensive research background. As a board-certified physician by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Zhou is committed to providing exceptional eye care and has a specialized focus on medical and surgical treatment of retinal diseases.
- Dr. Zhou’s academic journey is marked by outstanding achievements. She earned her Medical Doctorate from the Medical Center of Fudan University in Shanghai, China. She later went on and continued her education in the United States by earning a PhD in Cell Biology from Wayne State University School of Medicine and then Ophthalmology Residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, Affiliated with Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY. After that she completed a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at University of Florida at Jacksonville. During her fellowship, Dr. Zhou honed her skills in advanced surgical techniques and gained specialized knowledge in treating complex vitreoretinal conditions.
- Her research contributions have enriched the field of ophthalmology, emphasizing her dedication to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. Currently serving as the Residency Program Director and Director of Retina Services in the Department of Ophthalmology at BronxCare Health System, Dr. Zhou plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of ophthalmologists. Her commitment to education and mentorship ensures that aspiring eye care professionals receive comprehensive training and exposure to the latest advancements in the field.
- As an Attending Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Dr. Zhou brings a wealth of experience to her clinical practice. She specializes in the diagnosis and surgical management of complex retinal conditions, including retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other vitreoretinal disorders. Dr. Zhou’s surgical expertise is complemented by her compassionate and patient-centered approach, ensuring the highest standard of care for each individual. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Dr. Zhou is well-equipped to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population.
